Today, dear friends, we are going to make a cocktail.
Because that’s what people DO!
They drink. Especially when you want to drown your sorrows that another “season” (what do we call these anyway?) of Sherlock is over, and you probably have to wait another 2 years to get another taste.
Or just remember to pay for your Netflix subscription.
Whatever. On to the cocktail! This is a slightly more alcoholic, but just as refreshing, take on a classic: Pimms.
Don’t know what Pimms is? Neither do I, to be quite honest. No clue what sort of alcohol this actually is, but it’s amazing. It’s as British as fresh-squeezed lemonade is American, and just as delightful.
You can find it in the cordials section of your liquor store, and you do NOT drink it straight from the bottle (it’s gross, I tried it) but rather dilute it with something else.
In our case, more alcohol and, you guessed it, tea. Green tea. Because we’re healthy. And some sparkling pear cider, because you know, fruit and such. I used nonalcoholic, because I had to draw the line somewhere, but quite frankly, this would be great if you swapped it with some Angry Orchard or Crispin.
Just sayin.
Moving on…traditionally you mix up a big pitcher of Pimms with Sprite or 7UP. The ratios vary every time I do it, and depending on my mood, but you generally want a light brown/tawny color as the end result.
Feel free to do copious amounts of sampling until you get it the way you like it. But one thing you can absolutely not skimp on is the addition of cucumber and lime slices. It’s traditional to shove a whole bunch of fruit, and sometimes mint leaves, into your Pimms cup, but if you want to simplify your life, just stick with cucumber and lime slices. It’s the winning combination!
So, let’s all raise a glass to the epic moments this season has brought us – I’m looking at you, Moriarty/Sherlock make out sesh and Watson/Sherlock stag party – and get ready to show this final episode out in true British style.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup of Pimms (from the bottle, not diluted)
- 1 cup of Raspberry vodka
- 1 bottle of sparkling pear cider
- 3 cups of ice green tea
- Cucumber slices
- Lime slices
Directions:
1. Make your iced tea – grab 6 or 7 green tea bags, and put them in a large, heat proof bowl. Boil some water, pour over the tea bags, and let it steep for a good 20 minutes. Remove the tea bags, and refrigerate your tea.
2. Pour the Pimms, vodka, pear cider, and tea into a large pitcher, and add in the cucumber and lime slices. Let it sit for a few minutes to infuse the flavors, then pour into glasses and enjoy!
According to a lot of my planty websites a few borage flowers are also served with pimms (they taste cucumbery). I think it’s the only thing you can do with borage flowers…
I’m going to have to put flowers in my Pimms now!
if you have a place to grow them grow borage. The flowers are the cutest little blue stars and you can eat them!
