I am unashamedly Team Football Party.
I’ll be honest, I could care less about football. There are just so many random rules. Throw the ball. Catch the ball. Fall over. Clock stops. But hot, gooey, garlicky cheese?
ALL. OVER. THAT. Continue reading

Happy Cinco de Mayo!
Like we need an excuse to drink margaritas, and munch on chips and salsa, right?
But if you’re looking for a lighter way to celebrate, try this white chicken chili.
I hadn’t made a white chili before, but it’s basically a standard chili without tomatoes…probably pretty obvious to those in the know, but I was always a little intimidated by the idea of a white chili. Continue reading
The Super Bowl is almost upon us.
I have to be honest, I’ve never had a vested interest in who wins. Ever. Going to live games is fantastic, I love that. Especially when you get caught up in a 20 minute wave.
But when it comes to watching games on TV, it’s just not my thing. For me, football season is exciting for another reason.
The parties. Continue reading
Yum. That’s all I have to say about these.
Y.U.M. YUM!
Seriously, I taste tested one (cook’s privilege you know), and quickly devoured 2 more as soon as they were cool enough to handle.
Could anything cheesy, garlicky, and wrapped in puff pastry every be a bad idea? Nope. And the best part? They’re so simple to make. Continue reading
Mmm…butternut squash. So tasty, but so funny looking. And have you tried to peel and chop those things? Not an easy task.
Too awkwardly shaped to peel in a coherent way, and slowly oozing sticky juices, it can become a kitchen disaster pretty quickly. Not to mention the arm workout you’ll get trying to slice that thing!
So why bother?
Because butternut squash is like vegetable candy. Bake it, roast it, and you’ve got a magical little veggie that brings Autumn to your table. Continue reading
I can’t believe it’s the last day of September. Fall pounced on me this year, leaving me surprised when apples started to replace tomatoes at my local farmer’s market.
My response? Panic buy tomatoes. Of course. As any sane person would do, right? Continue reading
I have to come clean. Corn has not always been my thing.
It seems like this time of year, everyone is raving about fresh corn on the cob at their late summer/ early fall BBQs, but it’s never really done the trick for me.
Oddly enough, there are many vegetables I would rather have a side than corn. Green vegetables even. Shocking, right?
But then, I discovered the secret key that would let me enter the corn loving club. It is, as with many things, all a trick of preparation. Continue reading
I want to start this post by acknowledging the deep debt of gratitude I owe my good friend Charlie Cosimini. Without him, I would have no idea what lamb testicles taste like.
One of the new foods at the Minnesota State Fair this year are the Lamb Fries from Holy Land Deli. Please do not be fooled by the name, these are not chicken nuggets made from lamb. They are indeed lamb testicles.
And since I have a strict “No Ball” eating policy at The Culinary Capers, I was a little disappointed I couldn’t share the Lamb Fries experience with you all.
Until my good friend Coz stepped up to the plate. The following is a guest spot from Coz, and if you haven’t checked out his blog Chuck Does Art yet, you really should. He does even more amazing things than sampling lamb testicles there.
Lamb Fries – Holy Land Deli
Stop the presses!
I’m interrupting today’s regularly scheduled dessert post to bring you something better.
And it’s made with vegetables.
I know, I just saw the pigs fly by my window too, but seriously guys – you’ve got to try these. Right now. Go to your local farmers market, buy some zucchini, clear your schedule and make some zucchini fritters.
